Wednesday I step on a flight back to South Africa, I'll be gone till may 1st. I'm very much looking forward in being back in South Africa for a month, reconnecting with people, preparing for moving in September and also just taking some time to refresh my mind, connect with God and then come back for my final 4 months in Belgium.
The last month has mostly been about preparing my upcoming month in South Africa, Preparing the spiritual and sport aspect of the camp we will be doing in South Africa. We will be having a soccer- and volleyball camp in the township Tikwana. This is in the same location as I will be moving to in September.
By using sports we want to connect with the youth in Tikwana, Share the Gospel with them, but also just encourage and empower them. We will be working with local volunteers. Working with the local volunteers really gets me more excited cause these are the same persons we want to empower in the future to work together with and together try to make a difference in Tikwana and Hoopstad.
Beside all the preparing for South Africa, I have been working on preparing the team for a new season of SportQuest for when I and Jennifer leave for South Africa. It's been a time of change for SportQuest in different locations, but also here in Belgium. We are working on changing on focus from the Summer camps to be able to do more for the youth and churches throughout the year. I have been working with Kevin Verstraeten, who will take over leadership when I leave, to think through the future of SportQuest. Writing out vision, making a plan and building a solid foundation for the future. We are pulling the arrow back so the new team can fire it forward in the future.
In the future want to be able to do more tournaments, like our Summer classic that we will organise this year in May. But also work closer with the churches so we can equip and encourage them.
Leaving now it also means that Basketball has come to an end for me. When I come back in May I'll be able to say goodbye to the team I played on and the team I coached but I won't play anymore official games or coach anymore official games. I'm sharing this since basketball has been a huge part of me and something I'll miss a lot in the future. But I also know that it's time to finish basketball, time for a new season in South Africa so the countdown keeps going without stopping.
I'm also sharing this since this means that I'll loose a monthly means of income, so reaching my goal of monthly support becomes more important then ever.
I'm still trying to fundraise extra monthly support. Like I shared last time I needed to find 200 Euro monthly support to add. And that I was hoping to find 10 persons who will help me with 20 euro/month.
Since that time some of you have answered the call for help, and I only need to add 175 Euro on monthly support.
If you feel called the help me and support me, please contact me to discuss how you can help me with my mission.
I apologise for the lack of photo's in this post, I need to, and will step up my photo game these next months.
I am leaving for South Africa today, Ill post how the camp went at the end of april in this blog. If you are a bit curious how it is going, I'm gonna try to post some pictures regularly on social media, add me on facebook on my name "Kenneth De Heyn" or on instagram "kennethdeheyn"
Keep our camp in South Africa in your prayers!
Have a blessed day!
